Yoga is Not Just About ‘Health’ – Dr. Archika Didi

International Yoga Day

Yoga is an insightful practice that rejuvenates our body, mind and soul. It stimulates the inner peace of the practitioners by silencing their chaotic minds. See Yoga both as energy and rest that can transform the life of anyone who is practicing it regularly.

But understand that Yoga is not just about ‘good health’. It has others dimensions as well. It is a beautiful tool of self-awareness. But what does ‘awareness’ mean in the first place?

In simple terms ‘awareness’ is all about understanding something from its deepest level and paying close attention to it. It is also about actively gathering and processing information from your inner and outer surroundings and experience life holistically.

Staying aware is indeed vital these days. We have a lot to notice and we are loaded with information through a multitude of sources. So, you need to be a little oblivious in order to live a peaceful life and for that a sense of ‘real’ awareness is vital.

Yoga, a Path to Self-Awareness

Through Yoga, you can connect to your higher ‘Self’ and become completely aware of yourself. And so understand that ‘self-awareness’ is all about focusing your attention on yourself. You become able to notice your feelings, your well-being, your body, your sentiments, habits, behaviors, and your belief system.

You can look at YOU as if you were another human being observing you and you are honest about yourself.

When you are self-aware, you make better decisions in life, build stronger relationships, and express yourself more effectively. You are more likely to live an awakened life while staying aware of diverse aspects of the ‘Self’.

Further, self-awareness is a beautiful tool helping you reach higher levels of overall happiness. It is a way to find creative outlets during an otherwise ‘boring’ situation. And this is possible through the practice of Yoga.

Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family

This International Yoga Day’s theme is ‘Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family’, due to concerns around the ongoing pandemic. So, stay at home and learn techniques to pay attention to yourself through Yoga poses.

Through Yoga poses, boost immunity, gift your lungs a bigger room to breathe, improve flexibility, build muscle strength, perfect your postures, strengthen your spine, improve your bone health, increase the flow of blood, manage your blood pressure, regulate your hormonal imbalance, maintain your blood sugars, sleep deeper, release tension & stress, relax your body, mind & soul, and attain overall happiness.

So, let us practice today and everyday enthusiastically, stay aware of the Self and give the gift of good health to the body.
