What God Seeks from Devotees? | Dr. Archika Didi

The song of God, the Bhagavad Gita has described the concept of devotion wonderfully. Devotion is considered the supreme form of Yoga and it requires inner purification, a consistent spiritual practice, and self-discipline. With true devotion a devotee also recognizes the universal presence of God in every element of existence. Since a devotee loves God, he wants to offer his most valuable possessions in the Holy feet of God. A desire exists in him to offer everything but sometimes he forgets what God seeks from a devotee. He fails to understand that everything that he wants to devote has actually been gifted to Him by none other than God, who is behind every creation. Everything Belongs to God Whatever exists in this whole cosmos, everything belongs to God only. If we are thinking that we have offered something to God that belonged to us then let’s understand, whatever tangibles and intangibles are present in the whole existence, including our own body, everything has already been offered to God. So, which is the aptest offering that God may seek from His devotees? Further, with hard work and dedication, man accomplishes certain things in life and so in man, there is a sense of ‘doer’. He has wrapped himself with his own ego and ignorance. Man has draped himself with the ego of his knowledge, wealth, and possessions. But God doesn’t want anything like that from His devotees. What HE Wants from Devotees In The Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, ‘Dedicate everything to me; dedicate all your karma unto me. Do not expect the fruits of your actions and give up the pride of being the doer but at the same time do not adopt inaction’. God is the Supreme Power and Master of the Universe. All that occurs in this universe is by His command. Thus, a devotee is expected to submit himself unconditionally unto God and perform his duties with selfless devotion. A devotee must be of a saintly mindset. The real meaning of a saint is the one who lacks any desire, the one who does not expect any result of his actions, the one who lacks the feeling that- I am the doer and the one who has melted his ego completely. So dissolving his ego behind is the highest duty of a devotee and God seeks such pure sentiments from him. God seeks pure love and complete surrender. Be a Pure Soul Understand that God is the source of inner awakening, awareness and wisdom as well. So, there is nothing to be proud of and thus there is nothing worth offering as well. God does not need anything that we want to offer. He only seeks the pure devotee who has left everything behind including his ego. In fact, being egoless or void of a desire for personal delights is the essence of renunciation. God seeks such renunciation. With this state comes the desire to serve others and help the needy. The focus of a renunciate shifts from himself and he is no longer self-centered but instead thinks about others. He sees and feels the presence of the universal power in every particle of the creation. So, chant the holy name of God, serve the needy selflessly and perform austerities for the sake of uplifting them. That is true renunciation, and it also is the most heartwarming devotion that appeals to God. And God wants only such pure feelings from His devotees.

Everything Belongs to God

Whatever exists in this whole cosmos, everything belongs to God only. If we are thinking that we have offered something to God that belonged to us then let’s understand, whatever tangibles and intangibles are present in the whole existence, including our own body, everything has already been offered to God.

What HE Wants from Devotees

In The Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, ‘Dedicate everything to me; dedicate all your karma unto me.  Do not expect the fruits of your actions and give up the pride of being the doer but at the same time do not adopt inaction’. God is the Supreme Power and Master of the Universe. All that occurs in this universe is by His command. Be a Pure Soul

Understand that God is the source of inner awakening, awareness and wisdom as well. So, there is nothing to be proud of and thus there is nothing worth offering as well. God does not need anything that we want to offer. He only seeks the pure devotee who has left everything behind including his ego.  In fact, being egoless or void of a desire for personal delights is the essence of renunciation.
