This Winter- Stay Healthy | Dr. Archika Didi | Meditation | Spiritual | Guru

In winters, yoga can give the right kick-start to get you through the day, because the yoga-asanas can keep your mind and body healthy in the winter season.

Winter is here. And the chilly morning nip in the air makes it harder to get out of bed and put on those running shoes. That’s because jogging or running in this kind of weather can sometimes lead to fever and cold if not done in a proper way. So, how to stay toned beneath those layers of sweaters and mittens? YOGA is the answer. Its came from the Sanskrit word Yuj, means union of the individual consciousness or soul with the Universal Consciousness or Spirit.

Yoga is not a philosophy or a religion. It is pure science. It is a journey into the nature of the inner being. It’s not just an exercise but systematic discipline or set of techniques helping you to become aware of your deepest nature. Yoga  & meditation is the perfect way to build strength and flexibility in a safe, balanced way. You can do it indoor to avoid the chilly winter mornings. Pranayama the practice of controlling breathe and awakening of Prana (Vital energy) through various poses and breathing practices is the best thing one can do during winter.

If yoga-asanas are done properly then it leads to a calm state of mind that help us in meditation and remaining focused all day long. Meditation is a state of mind, completely free from dualistic thinking, there is no past or future, only the present. You just concentrate on the moment you are in. Yoga has a direct benefit on our mind, body and soul. It tones the body, calms the mind and helps us to maintain a balance between them.

Surya Namaskara

Our body also experiences a variety of changes with the change of season which can be unpleasant at times. In winters, yoga can give the right kick-start to get you through the day, because the yoga-asanas can keep your mind and body healthy in the winter season. If you do not have much time, then a little warm-up exercise and few rounds of Surya Namaskara can completely energize you and can keep you warm and healthy by releasing your sweat.

Apart from Yoga, following a healthy and balanced diet is also very crucial.  Include fruit in your breakfast if you’re not already doing, and add an extra serve of vegetables to each main meal. They are a good source of VitaminC, which is a must to increase your immunity.  As it is cold outside & due to lack of sunshine it can be hard to get the necessary vitamin D.  Deficiency of vitamin D may account for mood swing due to seasonal change and other illnesses.

So, when the sun does make an appearance, head outdoors for an hour or two a day. If this isn’t an option for you, consume healthy foods that are good sources of vitamin D.  And last but not the least make you sure you drink green team. It is rich in antioxidants and has antibacterial properties, which keeps you safe from the common cold and contagious viruses.

A Little healthy change in life can perform wonders, because the healthy mind resides in a healthy body.
