Stay Immune to Impure Thoughts

A lot of people struggle with impure thoughts. They don’t want to keep them in their mind yet such thoughts reappear distracting them from their path. Can anyone develop immunity against such thoughts?

Yes, it is possible, but how?

It’s All in the Mind

The human mind is made up of billions of cells, which accept different types of information from outside; store them and develop a pattern of life. Man should definitely pay attention to what kind of routine and habits he follows every day because they become a part of their thought process.

This is also the essence of what Lord Shri Krishna has talked about in the Gita about Satoguna, Rajoguna and Tamoguna. God wants every seeker to develop a Satvik lifestyle, in which there is no place for any kind of impurity.

If you develop the ability to keep the pattern of your life right, choosing the right path- effortlessly leading to a happy & contented life- you will certainly be able to keep impure thoughts at bay like infectious diseases.

The Nature of Impure Thoughts

Impure thoughts are mostly ‘awful ideas’ that get power from unrestrained behaviour, unwise habits, jealousy, anger, and lethargy. A lot of people struggle with such attributes at one time or another. Sometimes, even they don’t know where such thoughts come from, but it affects them. They may feel; that’s not what I want to think or that’s not the type of human I am!

Yet, these thoughts do creep up and become a heavy burden on the mind. The impure thoughts arise and affect the lifestyle. Sometimes, such thoughts stay with them for many years. And many times, such impure thoughts can be temptations from bad energies intended to cause harm eventually.

Mostly, when people are in stress they tend to indulge in negative thinking. Anyone can put a brake on such thoughts.

What Can Be Done to Control Thoughts?

First of all, know that your impure thoughts are not reality. They are also not what you seek because the core attribute of your soul is ‘purity’. When impure thoughts arise, confront them bravely and dismiss them right away. Try not to hold onto them for too long. When impure thoughts come your way, remember the words of God in the Gita: “Be fearless and fight.”

Know that The Bhagavad Gita does not erase fear. It rather reduces it to a temporary sensation not worthy of any attention. So, act that way and let the thought pass. You can see it passing out of your mind through meditation.

These thoughts will pop into your mind and then leave hastily. Reinforce your own ideas of a pious and righteous life and decide what you would and wouldn’t do in a given situation. With a meditative heart you can easily control such thoughts since they aren’t moral realities. They just exist.

The bottom line is that just having some impure thoughts isn’t a grave sin. But allowing those thoughts to actually become a reality—even though in your mind—may affect your life adversely. So, your thoughts both negative and positive, will manifest themselves if you focus on them regularly. Nevertheless, many people complain that impure thoughts are unending , how to stay immune to them?

Staying Immune to Unwise Thoughts

Those who want to control their minds and move towards positivity must filter all that their brain is grasping from outside.

Understand, what are you grasping, Tamasik, Rajasik or Tamasik things? What kind of life do you want? You should have a life like heaven; a beautiful life. For such a life, you have to grasp beautiful thoughts; thoughts of God, His blessings, His gifts for you, and Good Karma.

Shun watching such things that result in Tamasik attributes like jealousy, hatred, anger, revengefulness. Just cut them out. These days, social media is also full of hateful content. Delete them instantly and do not get busy forwarding them. They result in bad outcomes.

Sometimes people spread rumors like recently rumors related to COVID-19 vaccines were spread.

Do not get involved in spreading rumors and along with that also take a pledge that I will be wise, Godlike and Satvik, come what may.

And for that, bring changes within yourself first. God has given you enough power and therefore you have to cause an impact on your surroundings, behaviour, and habits. Be a Satvik person always. Even if others are acting unwisely around you, try to bring positive changes to yourself and your mind.

This way you can mend yourself and stay immune to bad attributes including impure thoughts. Indeed, it is possible if you are willing from the heart.
