Self-discipline, the Doorway to God

When you impose discipline on yourself, it is self-discipline. It is the door to realizing the Higher Power, God.

Self-discipline, the Doorway to God

Discipline influences your day-to-day actions and your desires. For a moment the virtue seems painful and difficult to follow, but later it yields sweet fruits of wisdom to those who have been practicing it.

And when you impose such discipline on yourself, it is called self-discipline which is the doorway to realizing the Higher Power, God. Self-discipline helps you leash your own senses and ensures that you provide appropriate nutrition diet for your body, mind and soul.

Also, diet is not just about food for the nourishment of the body. It is also about the human senses, and the pleasures they seek. Your skin desires ‘touch’ and eyes seek beautiful scenes. The tongue seeks tasty dishes and ears the pleasure of a sweet voice. All these senses are bound by their desires.

Moving Away from Desires

When you don’t fulfill these desires, they start showing the signs of discontent. They get restless. Yet, Yogis try to free these senses from desires through self-discipline. They make them abstinent.

These senses must move towards God because this is their ultimate fate. It would be possible only through the way of self-discipline. And for that meditation is one of the ways that helps seekers practice and use the power of self-discipline.

Meditation, Food for Soul

Understand that the act of putting a dutiful guard at the gate of the senses, to restrain the entry of any immoral thought is an act of meditation. It works as a food for the soul that leads seekers towards progression and towards God.

And that’s why seekers spend their time in meditation, in chanting God’s name and His glory in spiritual discourses.

If all the senses surrender to God, then believe that you will be liberated and your life can reach a state of supreme happiness- blessedness. But to achieve that, you have to try and take efforts to be pure in your words and deeds.

Have a Pure Mind

What you watch on TV, and in phones, all of them make an impact on the mind. If any immoral advertisement or film comes before eyes, it revolves in the mind, gets etched there and eventually it turns into a karma.

Sometimes, you hear or watch things that pollute the mind. Unfortunately, it becomes difficult for such a mind to make efforts to contemplate God.

In the Bhagavad Gita, God says, perform such activities that provide you with purity, energy and happiness. Otherwise, you are tarnishing your life.

Practicing self-discipline

Therefore, a seeker tries to place a guard on each of the senses and practices self-discipline. Only he is completely disciplined whose senses have become abstinent and involved in the service of God. They chant God’s name and connect with Him through worship, prayers, and meditation.

Through such activities, seekers draw their senses towards the inner world for realizing God. They know that the splendor of God and the beauty of the soul is within them only. And for that they practice self-discipline, meditation, and a deep faith.
