India gained Independence on August 15, 1947, but it was only on 26 January 1950, that the Constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign, democratic and republic state after the adoption of the constitution. The country was officially known as the Republic of India — a “sovereign socialist secular democratic republic” that “secures all its citizens’ justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity,” according to its preamble.

Now why it is done, only because it is important to follow the certain system and guiding principles for successful development of anything in life.

As a law-abiding citizen, we all follow the laws. We know the adverse effects it has if we don’t comply to the set rules. These rules ensure harmony for all of us, and if we don’t comply then it results in chaos. Similarly, a living that is based on principles guarantees a smooth life without any chaos. The life without principles is like a vehicle without steering wheel. The direction of life is aimless and wayward.

Independence day is about Swa-raj, which means self-governance, while Republic day is about Su-raj – good governance. It is very important to organize your life so that you may rule it. Similarly, it is necessary to understand that you can contribute to the good governance of the Nation by properly understanding and following your rights and duties. Because patriotism is not only a day feeling, it should be a very part of life!
