About Maharana Pratap

The owner of a phenomenal personality, the Maharana is believed to be the greatest Rajput king ever happened in the Sisodiya clan. The kind of valour he showed throughout his life and even in his death is exemplary.

Maharana Pratap personifies exceptional courage, self-respect, patriotism and defiance against the Mughals for which he is highly-regarded among India’s greatest Rajput warriors. On his birth anniversary, this article tries to highlight the marvellous aspects that define his charismatic personality.

Fearlessness: Rana Pratap belonged to Mewar’s Sisodiya clan. The soil of Mewar is famous for giving powerful rulers like Bappa Rawal, Maharana Hammir, Maharana Kumbha, Maharana Sanga, Uday Singh, etc. Among all these rulers there was one common thing – their Fearless attitude. Maharana Pratap Singh is the next name in this series of Mewar’s heroic rulers who refused to form an alliance with Mughal Emperor Akbar and kept fighting for his beliefs till the last breath of his life.

Self-Respect: Instead of accepting Akbar’s offer of alliance, Maharana Pratap Singh chose to confront him, which clearly meant a life full of unprecedented challenges & many threats, including the risk to his own life. Yet, these risks did not budge him from his stand. For him, the self-respect and freedom of Mewar and its people were above everything.

Patriotism: It was his love for his motherland that always persuaded Maharana Pratap to not surrender before the Mughals. For years, he lived in jungles, ate simple food, lived a tough life. He sacrificed everything for the sake of dharma, country and freedom.

Values, Culture & Character: Through his life, Maharana Pratap presented the finest example of protecting and cherishing values, culture and character. A short lived but glorious life is far better than a long life of enslavement. The great Maharana proved this with his own life. Despite being resourceless, he gave the Mughal army a tough fight that failed to kill or arrest him.
