How Do My Attributes Influence My Life?

For a happy and contented life, develop a Sattvic nature in yourself and search for your life’s purpose and Karma accordingly.

How Do My Attributes Influence My Life?

Human beings are constantly in search of something. It could be a goal, a purpose, or some materialistic desire. This search depends largely on their nature.

There are three attributes of nature, Sat, Raj and Tam and a man also have three traits, Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic. These three aspects are present in nature and within human beings as well. So, a man’s attributes collaborate with nature’s attributes and covert into Karma. We thus search for things in life according to our nature and traits.

A righteous (Sattvic) man will search for Sattvic things in life. He is fond of visiting religious cities and temples and offering prayers. A wise man befriends those with whom he can discuss wisdom, participates in Satsang, worships God, and meditates. He enjoys healthy and nutritious foods only. So, the Sattvic nature bonds with Sattvic material naturally.

Likewise, the Rajasic attribute yearns for Rajasic material. If you are a Rajasic man, your Karma will match with the Rajasic traits of nature. If you are materialistic and aggressive, your actions will match with this nature; you work accordingly because your mind wants that. People of Tamasic nature, indulge themselves in Tamasic activities. They get pleasure by hurting others.

Disposition is a Major Force

The Bhagavad Gita states, temperament is a dominant force, and it leads everyone on the path of Karma. The attributes of nature collaborate with our nature and they work like a clay pot.   It is the nature of clay that allows it to become a pot. It is the skill of a potter to make clay pots. The talent of a potter and the attribute of clay blend together giving shape to a clay pot.

Recognize Your Attributes

No one can make a pot or pitcher with sand, neither a layman can create a pitcher as it is no ordinary task. The one who has the skill only can create. So, a potter makes a pitcher with clay. But if the clay says, ‘I designed this pitcher’ it will be a lie, and if the potter says, ‘I did it, that too will be untrue. The attributes of both collaborated and then the final product came into existence.

And therefore, it has been said, we must recognize our attributes because ultimately, they will lead us to our Karma that will decide the path of our life. So, for a happy and contented life, develop a Sattvic nature in yourself and search for your life’s purpose and Karma accordingly.
