Aim, Point, Shoot | Guru Purnima Special

Our aim in life should be to make the world a better place through our thoughts and actions.

Having an aim is the key to achieving your best in life and that desire to excel is deeply embedded in us all. Most strivers are already making progress, and are well on their way to discovering what their aim in life is. Yes, it takes a while for that discovery to happen, for it’s no every-day realization; your aim in life defines you. What would you like your life to be about? Everyone wants to achieve something big in life, something they can be proud of and most importantly, something that gives their life meaning. You would probably know what that is from the dreams you have; the ones that really appear vivid, and almost real, but unfortunately end with you waking up. Remember your most fond dream right now, and ask yourself, how soon am I going to achieve this dream? If you’re feeling a sense of uncertainty, it’s normal, remember, the bigger your dreams are the harder they are to achieve; the important thing is to never give up on them. Everything is possible, when you believe God has a purpose for you. Once you figure out your aim in life, you’ll also realize what your purpose in life is. God has an assigned purpose for all of us, and committing oneself to a life of fulfilling that purpose is the ultimate goal of life. All one has to do is find the right direction to run towards and they are already on their way. Unleash your mind and unchain your thoughts from the imaginary boundaries that society has set up for you. We were all born to serve humanity in whichever way we can. Now that we know what we want, we must find out how we can achieve it in the best possible way. Hundreds of years ago if one wanted to find answers in life, they would seek the wisdom of a Guru; which in today’s world, translates to a Google Search. As remarkable as the wonders of the modern world may be, it can still have its shortcomings; it can most definitely show you a way but only a Guru would advise you whether or not the way is right for you. The teachings of a Guru are vital for one to find the right path to travel. We often rely on peoples past experiences and testimonials to make choices of the food we order or the places we visit, but have we ever stopped to think whether those choices of food or venues were necessary for us? In order to achieve the best in life, we must learn to focus our energy on doing the right things and avoiding distractions. To do so is a hard task, but if we accept that our Guru can show us the right direction, the task becomes easier with every passing day.

Guru Dronacharya, once tied a wooden fish high on a tree above a pool of water, and instructed the Pandavas to shoot the fish’s eye, while looking only at its reflection in the water below. Guru Drona asked them all before they were about to shoot, “Son, what all do you see?”. The eldest, Yudhisthira, answered, “The sky, the tree, the …,” and before he could finish, Drona stopped him and called upon the next student. When Arjuna, the ace-archer, was asked the same question, he stated without hesitation, “I see the eye of the fish.” And Guru Drona exclaimed with delight, “Shoot!”, and Arjuna’s arrow unwaveringly pierced right through the eye of the fish.

One’s ultimate goal could be anything, from becoming a world peace leader to simply being a better human; it’s the thought that counts. Fear, sadness, doubts are seldom; but they are just indicators that one is on the path to achieving their goals in life. Our aim in life should be to make the world a better place through our thoughts and actions.

“You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water.”
